This little man joined a family where his brother and sister were what you call Irish Twins - children born less than a year apart. Baby B made them Irish Triplets! I've known the older two for awhile now and have become friends with their mom... and it has been fun watching them grow from a family of four to a family of five! My favorite part of this session was the inclusion of daddy's Army uniform. This was my first opportunity to use a uniform in a session and mom and I had fun figuring out how to include them in a shot! B was wide awake for these...
...then he started getting sleepy. :) Sometimes all it takes is a mommy's touch!
While he was asleep I was able to get some of my favorite shots... while baby toes are my number one, lips and eyelashes get me every time.
Congratulations, H family!

the m family doubles in size | northern virginia mclean newborn family child photographer
While I love working with new parents (especially brand new parents!), I have grown to truly enjoy photographing twins. I won't sugarcoat it - they can be tough! It's hard enough to get one baby to settle down and with twins there's two of everything... two bellies wanting to eat, two diapers to change and two sets of arms to swaddle. The payoff is so sweet, though. Previous twin clients of mine passed my name along to their friends, the M family. I know I told them that their friends made parenting twin newborns look easy but these two carried it off just beautifully, too. Their boys were born very prematurely in November so our "newborn session" in February wasn't the typical newborn session... but they were still so tiny and precious. Check out L and G, identical twin boys:
Unbelievably adorable. Their mom had a gorgeous dining room table that we used for these shots - I love using unexpected spaces! One day I keep telling myself I'll ditch my bean bag and backdrop stand and just explore clients' houses for goodies to use... If everyone had an amazing dining room table like this I would be set! Little L was pretty comfortable up there - he gave us a few smiles!
The next one is one of my favorites from the session... not necessarily one you'd blow up and hang as a canvas on your wall but one that you'd be able to look back on and smile. The boys were pretty happy and on the same page for most of the session but we did catch one moment where they were total opposites. We've got one crying and one yawning... a twin mommy never rests!
I was in love with nearly every family shot that I took that morning...
Such love in their eyes! Every image made me so happy... what a gorgeous family.
Congratulations on your sweet boys, M family!

the growing b family | northern virginia centreville newborn family child photographer
The B family is another repeat client that I recently shot in December... they braved the cold for a sweet family session - their last as a family of three (four, if you count their furry Bear) before little brother joined the world. They are delightful to work with - fun and totally laid-back - just hoping to document their little family before it entered the next phase... and they brought their cute dog along, which just made my day. I'm sure you'll remember them from a few months back...
The cutest, right? How absolutely adorable is big sister-to-be F? We met again earlier this month when baby B was ten days old. Fun fact: He is named after several generations of great men before him - he's a IV - a fourth! So neat. He was super calm for us and barely made a peep... the perfect second child to follow his spunky big sister! She was absolutely tickled to play with his little fingers and toes.
...and what scrumptious little toes they are!
I love these shots of mom and dad with their new son (by the way, how beautiful does this mama look!?)...
Congratulations, B family! It has been a joy to watch your family grow... and capture it in photos!

mister s joins the world | northern virginia alexandria newborn family child photographer
I had the privilege of meeting this fun couple back in October - partly to celebrate their impending anniversary and also to celebrate the cute baby bump and little boy that would soon be joining their family. They were absolutely adorable and I couldn't get over how much J was in love with his wife's belly... he wanted to make sure we had lots of photos of him touching it and kissing it - totally sweet and understandable - remember how cute she was? I'm sure you'll recognize this one because it's one of my favorite photos from last year.
Naturally the sweet baby boy that she gave birth to was the cutest thing ever... and as the mommy of a ginger-haired little boy, I am partial to redheads... so baby S just about stole my heart. We had a very laid-back lifestyle session, which is really what I'm starting to gravitate towards. I love capturing families in their element - sure, it's great to get a few posed shots of everyone looking at the camera, but nothing screams love like new parents taking in every inch of their baby boy.
How can you not just want to squeeze this sleepy little face?
Congratulations, P family! It was a joy to meet "little" S and see you guys again!
